Title: The Madman's Daughter
Author: Megan Shepherd
Pages: 420 pages

Book Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.

My Review:

A Gothic Novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat right up until the very end!!

I am absolutely in love with everything in this novel! The Story, the plot, the characters, just EVERYTHING about this book is fantastic!

We meet the main character Juliet a former lady of high society who is now working as a maid because of a scandal that disrupted her whole family. She soon discovers that her Father, the person responsible for the scandal, is somehow alive and after years of not seeing or hearing a word from him she sets off in search of him.

On the way we meet Montgomery who is her father's assistant.  Juliet finds herself very attracted to Montgomery not only because he understands her but because he has grown into a very handsome young man who seems to have a soft spot for her and gives into her every whim.

Then we have Edward who is found after being lost at sea for several days. He is very close to death and takes a interest in Juliet from the moment he lays eyes on her. He is a survivor so Juliet seems to think they have that in common. However as she gets to know him better she can't help but to think that he is concealing an important part of his past from her and she is determined to find out what it is.

The overall feeling of the book is very Dark and Mysterious. You know that her father is some kind of mad scientist who is conducting experiments that are against the morals of most men. But  you really have no idea how mad he is until the main characters arrive on his island and by then it is too late. Juliet finds herself trapped on the island like a prisoner because the next ship that will arrive at the island is not scheduled to come for at least a month.  And to top things off one of her father's experiments has gotten out and is killing off the islanders one by one.

This story is brilliant and I honestly cannot wait to read the second book in this series to see what is going to happen next!

Title: Anna and the French Kiss
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Pages: 372 pages

Book Synopsis:
Anna is happy in Atlanta. She has a loyal best friend and a crush on her coworker at the movie theater, who is just starting to return her affection. So she's less than thrilled when her father decides to send her to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year.

But despite not speaking a word of French, Anna meets some cool new people, including the handsome Étienne St. Clair, who quickly becomes her best friend. Unfortunately, he's taken —and Anna might be, too. Will a year of romantic near misses end with the French kiss she's waiting for?

My Review:

Contemporary novels are just not my cup of tea however I LOVE 'Anna and the French Kiss'

This is one of those beautifully written books that makes for a very quick and very emotional read. Prepare to fall in love over and over with the main character Anna and her love interest Etienne. Sometimes you want to scream at the two of them for being so stupid but alas that is what makes for a great love story! Anna and Etienne's love reminds me very much of another one of my favorite couples who attend a certain school of witchcraft and wizardry.

When Anna and Etienne first meet they instantly connect and are soon best friends who spend every moment together. As the book progresses you watch as they slowly fall madly in love with one another but sadly both seem to be in a relationship with someone else when they finally realize their feelings for one another.

'Anna and the French Kiss' is now my favorite contemporary novel and has given me hope for this specific genre as a whole. I have now added Stephanie Perkin's other books to my TBR list and hope to read them sometime soon.

My Review:

In the end this book left me with more questions than answers. Now don't get me wrong, I am a complete sucker for a good werewolf story and this has all the potential to be one of those stories however, the plot after a while just sort of drags and drags on for no reason until it finally starts to pick up towards then end of the book when it suddenly ends with one of the worst cliff hangers I may have ever possibly read.

One of my biggest problems with this book is the main character Kat. Kat is a west coast girl who has lived out in California her whole life when suddenly and earthquake hits and her mother dies forcing her to move in with her Grandfather out in the middle of Arkansas. Before she moves all you know about her is that she wants to be a performer for Cirque Du Soleli. She has been training to accomplish this her whole life however when she moves out to Arkansas suddenly this is all forgotten.

Another big problem I have with Kat is that I find it very hard to relate to her as a character. To be very honest there were only two characters I liked in this entire book and that was Trick and Kat's Grandfather because the two of them are just awesome. Trick is the misunderstood high school outcast who somehow knows Kat's grandfather (they never really elaborated on that) and Kat's grandfather is like the crazy old man who lives out in the middle of the woods who would shoot you for trespassing on his lawn. I love the both of them. Honestly I would prefer the story to just be about the two of them.

The biggest problem I have with this story is Justin. Justin is supposed to be Kat's other love interest besides Trick. Trick makes a good love interest I guess when he's not being weird and moody. However Justin just comes out of nowhere and starts making out with Kat like it's not big deal. They know NOTHING about one another. I do not understand why Kat likes Justin in the slightest when she has Trick. It's just so frustrating to say the least.

Will I continue on with this series honestly I have no clue. I may just to see what happens to Trick and Kat's Grandfather because I do love the two of them. I'd also like to see if the next book would answer all the questions the first book left me with however I'm in no rush to read the second book in this series.

Title: Awake at Dawn
Author: C.C. Hunter

Pages: 383 pages

Book Synopsis:
From the moment Kylie Galen arrived at Shadow Falls Camp, she’s had one burning question: What am I? Surrounded by vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, fairies and witches, Kylie longs to figure out her own supernatural identity…and what her burgeoning powers mean. And now she’ll need them more than ever, because she’s being haunted by a new spirit who insists that someone Kylie knows—and loves—will die before the end of the summer. If only she only knew who she was supposed to save. And how...

But giving Kylie the most trouble is her aching heart. Gorgeous werewolf Lucas left camp with another girl, but he’s still visiting Kylie in her dreams. And Derek, a sexy half Fae who’s always been there for her when she needed him, is pushing to get more serious—and growing impatient, especially when Lucas returns. Kylie knows she needs to decide between the boys, and it’s tearing her up inside.

Yet romance will have to wait, because something from the dark side of the supernatural world is hiding in Shadow Falls. It’s about to threaten everything she holds dear... and bring her closer to her destiny.

My Review:

An amazing sequel to the first book 'Born at Midnight

'Awake at Dawn' starts off pretty much where the first book left off. Kylie is finally really starting to focus on her personal quest to discover who she is while getting used to all the new powers she suddenly appears to gain since discovering them in the first book.

Of course there is still the big mystery of which guy she is going to choose when it comes to her love life. As you all know I'm completely biased towards Team Lucas. Although there is a lot of special moments between both boys and Kylie, so you will not miss out no matter which boy you prefer. However I'm just saying the scenes between Kylie and Lucas are my favorite hands down.

As always with a new book comes new plot twists and this book sure gave out a bunch of them. I can say I was really not expecting a lot of the events that took place in this book to happen. Usually I'm pretty good at telling what the author is planning on doing next with a character but I can honestly say that C.C. Hunter kept me on my toes and I never know what to expect with her.

I am super excited to continue on with this series and cannot wait to get my hands on the third book in this series!!

Title: Born at Midnight
Author: C.C. Hunter
Page Count: 398 pages

Book Synopsis:
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

My Review:

I simply cannot get enough of this book!

I read Born at Midnight in one day. I found myself so hooked to the story that I simply could not put it down! It was fun and snarky yet exciting and mysterious! It really has everything that I look for in YA paranormal fiction book.

The book itself is very underrated and I think a lot of that has to do with the main character Kylie. I admit that at the start of the book I hated Kylie. Kylie is just completely annoying and cries WAY too much for my liking. However at the beginning of the book you learn that Kylie's life has basically gone down the toilet. Her Nan passes away, Her parents suddenly announce their divorce, and then her douche bag boyfriend decides to break up with her for another girl because Kylie is not willing to have sex with him. I'm pretty sure I'd be a little emotional about all that going on at once so I understand why the main character acts the way she does. However I'm hoping that as the series progresses that she will grow out of all that.

Obviously this book would not be that exciting if it did not leave me fangirling over new fictional boyfriends! Insert, Lucas and Derek. Derek is a handsome half fae with lots of cheesy charm. While Lucas is a sexy werewolf complete with a pair of bright blue eyes. Of course it comes to no surprise that I am completely and totally on board with Team Lucas. He is this bad boy who shares a very secret past with the main character Kylie and I just cannot wait to see what happens between these three characters in the next book!

But when Sebastian falls for a particular Dullsvillian, will another mortal beat Raven to the bite?
With suspense, danger, and a fabulous vampire party, this seventh book in the bestselling Vampire Kisses series continues the exciting nocturnal romance of Raven and Alexander.

My Review:

In the 7th book we are introduced to the vampire Sebastian who is Alexander's very charming and hot best friend. Now this book does start off a bit slow until Sebastian suddenly appears which is fantastic because when he does we are suddenly learning so much more about our main squeeze Alexander through Sebastian. I really love Sebastian's character and I feel awful for him because of his love life problems however I'm just as concerned as Raven when it comes to the young woman he chooses to become his main love interest in this book.

My hopes for book number 8 are mainly in regards to Sebastian and his love life. I really hope that he is paired up with a girl who is worth his heart and who isn't just going to use him because he is an amazing character. While I also secretly hope to get a lot more appearances from my personal favorite vampire Jagger. We already know that Alexander and Raven will be their normal perfect selves however can we please just turn Raven into a vampire already because I don't know how much longer I can wait for that to happen!
